After days of cryptic hints, scattered clues across cities, and no shortage of decoding by his fan community, Miisfiits, Talwiinder has released "Assay Passay," the first single from his upcoming EP, Paiinted Feeliings. True to what he's been building around the rollout, the song looks at the people and spaces around us, and how much of who we are ends up shaped by them without us realizing it.
In Punjabi, "Assay Passay" refers to one's surroundings. For Talwiinder, the idea stretches further. The song explores how the people we spend time with slowly mold the way we speak, behave, think, and even see ourselves. That influence, he suggests, is often so gradual that by the time it's noticeable, the person you once knew feels almost unfamiliar.
"We made 'Assay Passay' during a freestyle session at a friend's house on a rainy day. It wasn't planned at all. As we kept working on it, this thought about how much the people around us can change us just stayed with me. Sometimes you don't even notice that you're becoming a different version of yourself," Talwiinder said. "I think we all experience emotions that are difficult to explain or put into words, and Paiinted Feeliings came from that space for me, with each song capturing a different feeling, memory or moment."
Written, composed, and performed by Talwiinder, "Assay Passay" was produced by Dropped Out and mixed and mastered by NDS. The track marks Talwiinder's first non-film release since "Dil Mera, Pt. 2," which dropped in April, and continues the ambient-pop sound he's built his identity around, a style rooted in intimate, immersive emotional storytelling that has come to define much of his catalog.
Talwiinder has spent the past few years steadily carving out that space for himself, moving between original releases and film music while maintaining a consistent sonic signature across both.
