9 New K-Pop Releases Worth Your Time

From a first-time Crush and IU duet to PLAVE's chart sweep, these are the October releases we've had on repeat.

ATEEZ, IVE and PLAVE in one frame

October has been one of K-pop's busiest months of the year, with comebacks, debuts, and long-awaited collaborations arriving almost back to back. Some acts are pushing into new sounds, while others are leaning into what they do best. From ATEEZ's bass-heavy new single to a slower, more emotional turn from BABYMONSTER, here are nine new releases worth adding to your rotation.

"Drip" - ATEEZ

ATEEZ are keeping the momentum going after "BAD," which passed 100 million YouTube views this month. "Drip" is a gritty, bass-forward pre-release single built on confident, boastful lyrics. A short clip from its teaser went viral before the song even came out and arrived ahead of the group's new EP, GOLDEN HOUR : Part.6, due November 13.

"You're Under Arrest" - ILLIT

The title track of ILLIT's fifth mini album, BREAK EVEN, released October 26, is an electropop song driven by a whistle hook and finger-gun choreography. The song moves on from the open-hearted crush of “It’s Me,” as the group decides to walk away after mistaking someone’s kindness for something more.  BREAK EVEN topped Spotify's pre-save chart with more than 500,000 pre-saves ahead of release.

"seesaw" - Crush (feat. IU)

Released October 21, "seesaw" is the first official collaboration between Crush and IU, who had previously appeared at each other's concerts. Crush co-wrote and composed the duet, which captures the small misunderstandings two people run into while falling in love. It's his first release under his own name in about 14 months. "To be honest, this song might never have seen light without IU. We spent a lot of time discussing the song and sharing ideas, and I'm truly grateful that the final result turned out even better than I had imagined." Crush said in a Q. and A. released by his agency P Nation.

"Looks Can Kill" - IVE

After Cupid and magical-girl concepts, IVE are back as "girl heroes." The title track of their new mini album, pre-released October 19, is an electronic dance-pop song built on heavy bass and pounding drums, paired with a "sniper dance" that mimics firing a hand-gun. It topped the Melon Global-K chart for four consecutive days after release.

"DESERVE" - BABYMONSTER

Known for high-energy hip-hop and dance tracks, BABYMONSTER take a quieter approach on their pop ballad "DESERVE," released October 23. Lyrical synths and a retro mood underpin a song about looking back on a relationship and wishing an ex well. The members said they focused on emotional flow rather than vocal range, and the single arrives during their 31-show CHOOM world tour.

"Star Trace" - PLAVE

Virtual group PLAVE tried EDM-based dance-pop for the first time on "Star Trace," the racing-themed title track of its fifth mini album, HYPERDRIVE, released October 12. The results were immediate: every track on the EP occupied No. 1 through 5 on Melon's Top 100.

"12 o'clock" - Jeonghan X Joshua

SEVENTEEN's newest unit debuted with "12 o'clock," the title track of their first mini album, DREAMSCAPE. The dance-rock song reworks 1970s and 1980s disco and funk with bouncy bass and rhythmic guitar, following the pair as they chase a dream between noon and midnight. DREAMSCAPE sold more than 650,000 copies on its first day, a record for a K-pop unit album.

"Birthday Wish" - NMIXX

The title track of NMIXX's sixth mini album, Strange Muse, released October 19, stands out for its structure, with a break that strips down to piano and voice and a bridge built around narration. It debuted at No. 34 on Melon's Top 100, the group's highest debut on the chart, before climbing to No. 5. The album also features NMIXX's first-ever subunit songs.

"Masterpiece" - LNGSHOT

The first boy group from Jay Park's label More Vision, LNGSHOT shows a softer side on "Masterpiece," a polished alternative R&B track that likens a loved one to a work of art. Released October 21 as a pre-release from the group's upcoming EP, S.W.I.S.H., out November 10, it follows a breakout debut year in which "Moonwalkin'" entered the U.S. Mediabase Top 40 radio chart.
