Raman Negi, founding member and former frontman of The Local Train, has moved the Delhi High Court against his former bandmates alleging unauthorised exploitation of his copyrighted works, denial of royalties, and unlawful appropriation of trademarks associated with the band. The suit, filed under the Copyright Act of 1957, seeks protection of Negi's rights as an author, composer and performer, including sole composition rights he claims over five tracks released during his time with the band, among them "Choo Lo" from the 2015 debut album Aalas Ka Pedh.
According to court filings, Negi rejected a retirement deed that sought to strip him of all present and future royalty and proprietary rights, and issued a legal notice in December 2024 demanding work-wise and source-wise revenue details. After failed negotiations, he initiated pre-litigation mediation before the Delhi High Court Mediation and Conciliation Centre in March 2025, which closed as "not settled" in September 2025, following which he filed the present commercial suit.
The matter was briefly heard by Justice Tejas Karia and was listed for further hearing in March 2026, the last confirmed update on the case's court proceedings. Negi and The Local Train parted ways in early 2022; he has since released two solo albums, Shakhsiyat (2022) and Chaltey Purzay (2024), while the band's remaining members — Ramit Mehra, Sahil Sarin and Paras Thakur — have continued performing and releasing new music, including "Tu Hai Kahaan" with Lucky Ali for the 2024 film Do Aur Do Pyaar.
