Gorillaz paid tribute to Asha Bhosle during their sold-out show at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London on June 20, with the singer’s granddaughter, Zanai Bhosle, joining the band on stage to perform “The Shadowy Light.”

The track, Bhosle’s final recorded song before her death, appears on Gorillaz’s ninth studio album, The Mountain, released in February. Toward the end of the performance, Zanai became visibly emotional and broke into tears as Bhosle’s original vocals played on screen behind her. She later shared a clip of the moment on Instagram, writing, “Marking the most emotional and beautiful night on stage..with the one and only @gorillaz and the shadowy light which was in spirit my beautiful grandmother, looking down from heaven on us. Love you forever, I hope you’re proud @damonalbarn, so beautiful.”

The tribute came just over two months after Bhosle’s passing on April 12, at age 92, and marked one of the most-talked about moments of Gorillaz’s 13-date run across the UK and Ireland - the band’s first-ever stadium performance. Bhosle is one of several Indian artists featured on The Mountain, alongside Anoushka Shankar, bansuri player Ajay Prasanna, jazz musician Asha Puthli, and sarod players Amaan Ali Bangash and Ayaan Ali Bangash.

The London show also served as a preview of what’s to come when Gorillaz bring The Mountain Tour to India for the first time, with dates scheduled in Bengaluru on January 23 and Mumbai on January 27, 2027.
